A two-day discussion between China Railway International Group and Governor Sir Julius Chan of New Ireland on development projects in Ireland were concluded this month. This high-level meeting was held in Moresby Port. The three were also accompanied by Manager Solomon Pela and Civil Engineer Collin Dickson from the department of works.
Hon. Sammy Missen, Transport, and Infrastructure PEC Chairperson stated that the discussions centered on Governments proposed rural development projects. These include Kavieng’s new market, foreshore, and sports stadium, New Ireland University and government office complex.
The Governor assured the Chinese counterpart that the government had enough finances to foresee these development projects, failure to which they would not have partaken in them. Additionally, he insisted on the importance of such developments in the Province to the government. He further expressed that his government was keen to lead by example by undertaking such autonomous projects. With small steps, they were optimistic that they would, in the end, change Papua New Guinea.
Governor Jassim expressed concerns on the slow developments in Balus Bridge completion and road sealing project by Dekenai Construction Company. Accompanied by Chairman Missen, he also met with the infrastructural team for an update on progress in Tinkoris Health and all roads projects targeted for development in their arrangement.
